The Ashes Made Large at Hallow…

Two titan teams of the cricket world clashed at Hallow on Friday 7 August 2009.

Compco Fire Systems and Rabjohns met to punish willow and leather, in a match that saw a full range of skill from its players (a very wide range!)

 

Bowling was variable, off a blessedly dry artificial grass, although the outfield grass was gently swaying in the light evening breeze; many a cover drive gave up the ghost. Batsmen (Packwood and Dudley in particular) resorted to sending balls by air to the boundary – losing 3 match balls in the process.

 

The eventual outcome of this 20/20 match went to Rabjohns with 4 overs unbowled (although it must be said that one or two of the bowled overs were quite a bit longer than the usual 6 balls – as creaking arms were brought back into use after many years). Some bowlers seemed to have some difficulty in keeping to the crease and evidently were more familiar with 10 pin bowling.

 

Despite the drawback of having to be fair and give the rabbits amongst us a turn at both batting and bowling, there were pockets of brilliance in both teams (small pockets, but brilliance nonetheless).
