Company Directors Signatures at risk

Fraudsters are using directors’ signatures on public record at Companies House.

We have come across an example where fraudsters were able to withdraw funds from a company's bank account using a faxed instruction with one of the director's signatures forged. It is thought the fraudsters used the director's signature from the company's accounts at Companies House.

Three attempts were made. The first two were spotted by the bank but the third was not and a significant payment, in excess of £100,000 was made.

The company concerned use on line banking and their daily check discovered the fraud; the bank made an immediate refund to the company.

Be careful if your signature is in the public domain - consider the possibility if having two signatures; one for documents in the public domain and a second for confidential use including bank instructions.
