| At Rabjohns, we believe we have a responsibilities beyond those that we owe to our team and our clients. We are part of a wider community, both business and civic, which requires us to play our part in putting something back into the area in which we earn our living. This is our Corporate Social Responsibility (a buzz phrase but one which sums up what we are talking about). There are a number of different ways we do this:
Our physical space and buildings.
We are the custodians of a stunning set of historic Grade 2 listed buildings next door to the magnificent Worcester Cathedral. Four Georgian townhouses do not equate to the most efficient use of space known to man but they do create an uplifting environment to work in (now that doesn’t sound like typical bean counters does it?). Our use of the buildings, whilst costing us more than operating out of a modern block somewhere near a motorway junction, ensures that College Yard is a vibrant commercial centre for the city.
Charitable support
Financial skills, together with business management experience and the ability to get things done, are always in demand from the charitable sector. We provide support to a number of different local charitable organisations by our team giving their time in formal or informal roles.
We use our active seminar programme as a means to raise money for local charities with our booking fees all being donated to a selection of local causes.
Our social team take part in a number of different fund raising events, from football matches to dragon boat racing and quizzes to fun runs.
Education
We have a role to the wider business community in helping equip today’s youngsters to be the commercial entrepreneurs of tomorrow. There are a number of different ways we do this:
We have an extensive work experience programme with young students from a wide variety of schools obtaining a taste of life at Rabjohns.
We run a series of careers talks and workshops at various careers conventions and within careers programmes.
We are heavily involved in the Young Enterprise charity which has a variety of programmes giving children of different ages the experience of “learning by doing”. We provide the Deputy Chairman of the local area board; we provide financial support to a number of initiatives and we provide judges for competitions and some of the prizes. Four of our team members have been volunteers for the Primary Programme. This tackles part of the Government’s plan to teach enterprise education to primary school children. Our team presented part of this at Cranham Drive Primary which is in an area classified as seriously deprived. They found the experience enormously uplifting.
A number of our team (and our alumni) act as advisers on the YE Company Programme. If you or your team want to find out more about this rewarding scheme look at the YE website.
We provide sponsorship to a number of different educational establishments (maintained and private) on a wide variety of projects.
TOPS
Various members of our personal tax team provide their expertise, without charge, to this Charity which supports the elderly in understanding their tax affairs when they cannot afford professional representation.
The Arts
Our sponsorship programme helps a broad range of the Arts – for example with events at Malvern Theatres, Worcester Cathedral, and Eastnor Castle.
We provide a public forum for young artists to display their work with our support of the Alice Ottley School’s art department. We sponsor their annual awards and, each year, display a spectacular selection of work in our offices.
Sport
We are heavily involved in both professional and amateur sport within Worcestershire. Acting for Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Worcester Warriors, we support them in a number of ways. Our sponsorship programme also helps a variety of amateur and school sports teams.
Civic Life
With a history that goes back to 1935, our close connections with the Cathedral, our historic location and our client list, it is inevitable that we are heavily involved in Civic Life within Worcester. It is something in which we take great pride. |
